The *Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon* states: "Yang Qi is like the sky and the sun. If it loses its proper place, life is shortened and its brilliance does not shine forth." Yang Qi is like a little sun inside the body. Once it is insufficient, problems such as cold hands and feet, listlessness, and aversion to cold will come knocking. However, many people blindly take supplements to tonify Yang Qi, with unsatisfactory results. This is actually because they have not mastered the correct sequence of regulation! Today, let's talk about it in detail:

一、First, Unblock: Clear the Yang Qi Circulation Pathways

Traditional Chinese medicine holds that where there is free flow, there is no pain; where there is pain, there is obstruction. Insufficient yang energy is often accompanied by meridian stagnation, much like a water pipe clogged with silt, where even the best water source cannot be delivered. Common causes of blockage include cold-damp invasion and qi stagnation with blood stasis, manifesting as stiff shoulders and neck, joint pain, body heaviness, and unexplained bruising on the body.

For moxibustion to dispel cold, acupoints such as Dazhui (GV14), Mingmen (GV4), and Zusanli (ST36) can be selected. If phlegm-damp is severe, Er Chen Wan may be considered; if there is blood stasis, Xuefu Zhuyu Wan may be considered; if there is stagnation, Si Ni San may be considered, and so on.

II. Reinforce: Infuse the Body with Yang Energy Fuel

Once the pathways are cleared and the flow of yang energy within the body is no longer obstructed, replenishing yang energy can begin. Traditional Chinese medicine believes the kidneys are the foundation of innate constitution, responsible for storing essence and housing primordial yin and yang; the spleen is the foundation of acquired constitution, the source of qi and blood production. Only with strong spleen and kidneys can yang energy be sufficient.

For kidney yang deficiency, you may choose Yougui Wan or Guifu Dihuang Wan; for spleen yang deficiency, consider Fuzi Lizhong Wan. If the condition is more complex, adjustments should be made based on the individual's specific situation.

III. Final Consolidation: Preventing Yang Qi Loss

If yang qi is not consolidated after supplementation, it will be like water in a leaky bucket—difficult to fill. Consolidating yang qi requires starting with daily habits. Traditional Chinese Medicine emphasizes "tranquility and emptiness, so that true qi follows." Emotions and daily routines can all affect yang qi.

In daily life, you can nourish yang by going to bed early. Nighttime is when yang qi retreats and rests; staying up late disturbs yang qi and depletes yin fluids. It is recommended to fall asleep before 11 PM each night to allow yang qi to fully recuperate. Additionally, gentle exercises such as Baduanjin or Tai Chi can be practiced to mobilize the body's qi and blood, thereby strengthening yang qi.
