Dampness and Itching in the Inner Thighs: Three Classifications and Rapid Conditioning
Many men experience persistent dampness in the inner thighs, often accompanied by excessive sweating, an unpleasant odor after sweating, and itching. There are three primary causes for this condition, which I will explain below.
The first is Damp-Heat in the Liver Meridian. The Liver Meridian circulates through the root of the thigh. If there is Damp-Heat in the Liver Meridian, it descends along the meridian to the inner thighs, leading to hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), dampness, and itching in that area. This is often accompanied by symptoms such as abdominal distension, loss of appetite, chest oppression, a bitter and sticky taste in the mouth, a red tongue body, and a yellow, greasy tongue coating. In this case, it is necessary to clear the Liver and Gallbladder and resolve Damp-Heat; Longdan Xiegan Wan can be considered for conditioning.
Next is spleen deficiency with heavy dampness. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) holds that the spleen governs transportation and transformation, metabolizing fluids. If the spleen is deficient, it fails to metabolize and expel fluids, leading to the accumulation of dampness within the body. As dampness tends to sink, symptoms such as dampness in the groin area and oily skin easily occur. This is often accompanied by a heavy sensation in the body, abdominal distension, diarrhea, lethargy, and sticky stools. In such cases, it is necessary to strengthen the spleen and eliminate dampness; *Shenling Baizhu San* may be considered.
Finally, there is the downward flow of damp-heat. This condition often occurs when spleen deficiency and heavy dampness are not treated in a timely manner, causing the dampness to transform into heat within the body. When damp-heat lingers in the lower *jiao* (lower burner), it results in dampness, itching, and an unpleasant odor in the groin area. This is accompanied by symptoms such as short, scanty, yellow urine, dry stools, and weakness in the legs. In this situation, it is necessary to clear heat and promote diuresis to drain dampness; *Gegen Qinlian* Decoction may be considered.
However, please note that TCM medication requires syndrome differentiation. If you have health concerns, seek medical attention promptly and use medication only under the guidance of a professional physician.
