In cases of Kidney Essence (Shen Jing) deficiency—characterized by symptoms such as frequent soreness and aching of the lower back, memory decline, and erectile dysfunction (Zong Jin Bu Ju)—it is necessary to tonify the Kidney and replenish the Essence.

If Kidney Essence deficiency is caused by unconsolidated Kidney Qi—manifesting as persistent lack of energy, fatigue and weakness, soreness and heaviness of the limbs, post-void dribbling, nocturnal emission, or premature ejaculation—then it is necessary to supplement the Kidney Qi.

If the deficiency of kidney essence is caused by weakness of the spleen and stomach—manifesting as symptoms such as lack of energy, loss of appetite, poor digestion, frequent abdominal bloating, chronic diarrhea, or loose stools—it is necessary to tonify both the spleen and the kidneys simultaneously.

If the deficiency of kidney essence is caused by insufficiency of liver blood—manifesting as symptoms such as irritability, dizziness, tinnitus, dry eyes, diminished vision, insomnia, or premature graying of the hair and beard—it is necessary to nourish the liver blood.
