A Thousand-Year-Old Formula for Regulating Qi: Helping You Smooth Qi Flow, Improve Digestion, and Resolve Phlegm
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) believes that the human body relies on the smooth and unobstructed flow of Qi. Qi drives the movement of fluids and food within the body; therefore, only when Qi flows smoothly can the functions of the internal organs operate normally. Once the Qi is obstructed, the body's fluids cannot be properly discharged, and the excess fluid will accumulate into phlegm. When phlegm-dampness is stored in the lungs, it leads to frequent coughing, expectoration, chest tightness, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, and asthma.
Furthermore, when the stomach is bloated and you feel a "pocket of air" in your abdomen, this is a sign of obstructed Qi. When Qi accumulates in the stomach, it causes symptoms such as abdominal distension, hiccups, belching, loss of appetite, and nausea. If Qi stagnates in the gastrointestinal tract and fails to push food downward for excretion, it results in borborygmus (stomach growling), flatulence, and constipation. In such cases, it is necessary to regulate the Qi, resolve phlegm, and promote digestion.
Today, I would like to share with you a formula for regulating Qi called Sanzi Yangqin Tang (Three-Seed Decoction to Nourish the Parents). It is composed of White Mustard Seed (Baijiezi), Perilla Fruit (Zisuzi), and Radish Seed (Laifuzi). Among them, White Mustard Seed is excellent at resolving phlegm, promoting Qi circulation, and dissipating nodules; Perilla Fruit excels at directing Qi downward while also moistening the intestines to relieve constipation; and Radish Seed functions to eliminate food stagnation. The combination of these three herbs works to digest accumulated food in the gastrointestinal tract while simultaneously descending Qi, resolving phlegm, and relieving coughs.
However, please note that the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine requires syndrome differentiation. If needed, please consult a professional physician for diagnosis, treatment, and conditioning in a timely manner.
