First is Xiaoyao Wan, which functions to soothe the liver, strengthen the spleen, nourish the blood, and regulate menstruation. It is mostly used for people with Liver Qi stagnation. Since Liver Qi stagnation most easily transforms into fire, leading to excessive liver fire, it is crucial to promptly regulate and smooth the stagnant Qi mechanism of the liver. If you experience distending pain in the hypochondrium (sides of the ribs), a bitter taste in the mouth, dry throat, insomnia, or dizziness due to Liver Qi stagnation, you may consider Xiaoyao Wan.

Next is Chaihu Shugan Wan, which can soothe the liver, regulate Qi, eliminate bloating, and relieve pain. It is primarily suitable for people with Liver Qi stagnation and obstruction. Such individuals often feel emotionally depressed, sigh frequently, experience wandering distending pain in the chest, hypochondrium, or abdomen, and have a sensation of a foreign body in the throat. In these cases, you may consider Chaihu Shugan Wan.

Finally, there is Longdan Xiegan Wan, which clears liver and gallbladder fire and drains damp-heat. It is primarily suitable for individuals with liver and gallbladder damp-heat. Due to excessive internal fire combined with the invasion of external damp-heat, these individuals suffer from internal damage caused by damp-heat. This leads to symptoms such as distending pain in the chest and hypochondrium, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, sticky stools, and a greasy yellow tongue coating. In such cases, Longdan Xiegan Wan can be used as a reference.
