Eight signs of high liver toxicity: how many do you have, and is it time to detox your liver?
First is experiencing a bitter taste in the mouth and bad breath upon waking up in the morning; this may be caused by stagnant liver Qi and excessive liver fire.
Second is a yellowish, dull, and lusterless complexion. If the liver is damaged, it causes liver toxins to accumulate in the blood instead of being excreted, making one's face look unhealthy.
Third is the yellowing of the whites of the eyes. The liver is closely related to the eyes; excessive liver fire or insufficient liver blood can cause eye discomfort, leading to yellowing of the eyes and decreased vision.
Fourth is abdominal bloating and frequent flatulence. When the liver is not functioning well, the bile it secretes cannot properly assist the gastrointestinal tract with digestion. This leads to an excessive accumulation of food that the gut cannot fully break down, and the decaying food then produces excessive gas.
Fifth is dark, concentrated urine. This may be caused by impaired liver function, which leads to an increase in bilirubin levels in the body.
Sixth is difficulty falling asleep. The liver "houses the ethereal soul" (Hun). Patients who suffer from insomnia are often affected by stagnant liver qi and vigorous liver fire. Such individuals frequently wake up in the middle of the night and struggle to maintain a restful sleep.
Seventh is recurring acne, which may be a manifestation of liver fire, caused by an excess of toxins in the body that cannot be eliminated.
Eighth is vertical ridges on the nails; when liver toxins accumulate, the nails tend to become particularly brittle and prone to breaking.
